The investment shirt is the most dependable of wardrobe essentials. It's one of the few pieces that can convey both authority and ease. Right now, I'm a fan of a shirt cut in a relaxed shape.
I recently wore a Celine shirt to a work event in SoHo, paired with a slim leather skirt and Gucci loafers. It was perfect for the occasion, and I'm thrilled to have it in my closet. The cut and details are truly special.
As a former publicist for the brand, I can say this with confidence: yes, it's an investment, but you will wear your Celine pieces forever. A designer shirt looks as good with tailored pants as it does with a slim leather skirt or jeans and boots.
A few styles on my radar are from Celine, Jamie Haller, Gucci, Sézane and Wiggy Kit. Some are investment pieces, but remember that less is more. The cut and detail are worth it for something you'll wear for years. It's a true wardrobe asset.
Celine Shirt in Cotton Poplin
Celine:
This is the one I own and love. It has a relaxed yet structured shape in crisp cotton poplin, with dropped shoulders, a wing collar and a rounded hem. The Celine Paris–engraved mother-of-pearl buttons go all the way down to the cuffs. My favorite detail is the removable tab with Triomphe embroidery. Sizing tip: it runs generous, so size down for a more fitted look.
Jamie Haller’s The Essential Shirt
Jamie Haller:
Jamie Haller's Essential shirt in a cotton-silk stripe. Tuck it into your favorite jeans and go.
Gucci GG Cotton Poplin Damier Shirt
Gucci
This one is from Generation Gucci, a line that pulls from the house archives with a nod to '90s minimalism. It's lightweight cotton poplin in the signature GG damier.
Wiggy Kit’s The Tab Shirt
Wiggy Kit:
A bold, masculine stripe with a crisp white bib. It's preppy but still feminine. Wear it loose over denim, tucked into tailored pants, or layered under knitwear as the weather turns.
Sézane’s The Max Shirt
Sézane
The oversized white shirt, done right, with a chest pocket, curved hem and mother-of-pearl buttons. The best part is that Sézane will embroider it for free with a name, a date or a word of up to 10 characters.
